Visit to Kallmünz Castle Ruins, Bavaria, Germany

I am finally here again for an update. Spain vacation is over and now I am back to my normal life. It's been almost two weeks now since I am back home.

Let me share some images I took from Kallmünz last 2009. I actually visited this castle for a lot of times. Sometimes we pass it by when we are on our way to Regensburg driving over the so-called "Landstrasse", called by American friends as back road. It is around 18-20 kilometers from Hohenfels US training area.

There is a castle ruin in this town. The Germans called it the Burgruine or the Kallmünzer Burg. It is located on top of the hill. You can have a very nice view of Kallmünz and its surroundings when you are on the top.

The castle ruins that we see today in Kallmünz was said to begin its construction between 1230-1250. The architecture was from Roman to Gothic during its construction.

You can find some information of this castle in this link below. Sad to say, it is in German.

Houses on the foot of the hill. You can see the castle ruins towering on top of the hill.

These photos were taken during our visit last April 2009.

Goodbye Winter in Deutschland

It is finally spring time! I am saying goodbye now to winter in Germany. I can still remember the same time last year when it was still snowing during this time. In fact, until the first week of April last year, there was still snow.

I very much welcome another beautiful season of the year, spring time!

WW: The Lake at Kratzmuehle

This is the lake in Kratzmuehle where we visited last August 01, 2009. There are a lot of people who always do camping in this area. It is also a resort at the same time. This is only a part of the lake. I am wondering why the water is so green.

Flowers from Neumarkt, Germany

It seems that I was away here for quite some days. I am back here now and sharing these photos I took today during our visit to the 150th founding anniversary of Fire Brigade in Neumarkt in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany. You can also see the colourful buildings in the background of the first picture. That white triangle building is the city hall of Neumarkt. You can also noticed the cobbled stones in the old city of this city. It was quite cold today as we witnessed the Fire Brigade with around 115 groups participating the parade. More photos will be found in my Explore Germany site soon. Have a great week ahead!

My World in Siegestor or Victory gate in Munich, Germany

I had seen this architecture for some times already. The Siegestor or Victory Gate in Munich is a three-arched triumphal arch crowned with a statue of Bavaria with a lion-quadriga, similar in style to the Arch of Constantine in Rome, the Marble Arch in London, the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. It is located between the Ludwig Maximilian University and the Ohmstraße, on the intersection of the Leopoldstrasse and the Ludwigstrasse.

Here is the picture I took last November 2009.

Feel free to visit Wordless Wednesday and World Tuesday to join and see more photos! Have a great one especially to all participants of these memes!
HISTORY

The gate was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria, designed by Friedrich von Gärtner and completed by Eduard Mezger in 1852. The quadriga was created by Martin von Wagner. The gate was originally dedicated to the glory of the Bavarian army (dem bayerischen Heere zum Ruhme). Today the Siegestor is a monument and reminder to peace. After sustaining heavy damage in World War II, the gate was - similar to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in Berlin - reconstructed and restored only partially. The inscription on the back side is by Wilhelm Hausenstein and reads Dem Sieg geweiht, vom Krieg zerstört, zum Frieden mahnend, which translates as "Dedicated to victory, destroyed by war, reminding of peace". In the last couple of years, the statues that remained were meticulously cleaned and restored. The Siegestor is 21 meters high, 24 Meters wide, and 12 meters deep. wikipedia

Donaudurchbruch between Kelheim and Kloster Weltemberg

I believed I am one of the luckiest person who have seen one of the most beautiful place in the world, the Donaudurchbruch or Danube Aperture between Kelheim and Kloster Weltemberg. This place is located in the state of Bavaria in Germany. The Danube Aperture located near the Monastery of Weltemburg is considered to be the most remarkable valley in Germany breaking through a mountain barrier. It was really a very nice experience seeing this place for the second time. We also enjoyed the cruise that we had in the famous Danube River. Have fun watching the pictures in this site.

MWT- Sept. 11 Attack

Three days more to come and it is already almost 8 years since the 9/11 attack. You might ask and wonder where I get this picture where the World Trade Towers collapsed. I was watching a movie in ARD, a German TV channel about it last Sunday. It was video of this horrible tragedy in 2001. I already slept around 3 AM just to watch this TV program. If you search in the net, you can also find a lot of news and theories about this tragedy. As I was watching the video, I just don't understand why there was no immediate help provided to the employees inside the building. Normally, the US has the most advance technique in the world but why this happened? I mean, why not send a helicopter or medicopter maybe to save those victims inside the buildings. It was really a very sad story. I just hope and pray that the victims of this tragedy may rest in peace. I apologize for reminding about this tragedy but I also felt very sad as I was watching the movie. I hope this will be an awakening to all of us.Peace to all mankind!

Herbstdult Festival in Regensburg, Germany

We went yesterday to the so-called Herbstdult festival in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany. It was fun and very entertaining. There were a lot of kiosks, stalls, rides, tents and shops where you can play a lot of games, go shopping, enjoy the rides or simply go sightseeing around and watch all the fun. There are also three big beer tents. We stayed in one tent and watched the band playing while eating. The festival is still going on until this weekend. If you have the chance to visit, don't hesitate! cheers!

Tiis is my entry for Mellow Yellow and Scenic Sunday. You can see the 50 meters ferris wheel that shadowed in Danube River! sorry not a good catch. I only use a very simple camera. I still did not upload the other photos! more to come in my other sites!
