Booked My Flight for A Holiday to Asia

I finally booked my flight for a holiday to Asia this year. It's been so long a time since I did not had a travel in my home country, Philippines. I chose to explore many countries in Europe and finally this spring time, I will be flying home.
During my flight from Phoenix to San Francisco in 2012.
I started to find cheap flights since October 2013. I was browsing online which travel portals or agencies are offering the cheapest ones. Since Asia is quite a long way especially to the Philippines, I decided to choose the flight that I don't need to have a long lay-over.

I was also asking for affordable flight to the travel companies where I booked my flights during my previous travels to the Philippines. I was quite disappointed with Vollmer Reisen, a travel agency in Germany because it was very clear in my inquiry about the flights that I want. They also don't answered on my queries immediately. Due to that, I decided to inquire about Kirschner Reisen, a travel agency in Cologne. They immediately replied to my message in their facebook page. Since the offer for flight was quite reasonable, I ended up booking it. It is also a peak season in April-May and I am afraid that there will be no more seats available, the reasons why I booked it immediately.

More on that, I will be visiting Singapore also and other places and islands in the Philippines. I am still planning and organizing for my travel itinerary as of now. I hope I can finalize everything before the end of March.

Thanks to my siblings from the US who sponsored for my plane ticket this year. I am indeed blessed to have such loving sisters. God bless you my dear sisters. God bless us all!

Things to Consider When Planning for you Trip

There are a lot of things to consider when planning for your trip. Below are just some of the most important ones;

Budget- For those who have a lot of money, going for a vacation is always convenient and easy. For some travelers who are tight in their budget, planning ahead of time is required. If we are traveling to other countries who don't use the same monetary value like what we use in our country, we have to consider Foreign Exchange. If you are in UK for example and wish to travel to the United States, be sure to have some US dollars with you. Sometimes exchanging your money at the airport can be very expensive. There are a lot of financial companies online who offer better Exchange Rates for your money.

Accommodation- Finding the right accommodation that will fit your needs and budget also needs to be considered. I remember our trip to Vancouver, Canada lately. My friend from Seattle, Washington booked our overnight hotel for almost $200.00. For a budget traveler like me, that is quite a high price. When I searched online, I found a hotel that only cost $70.00 per night for double room. Imagine the difference and the savings we had when I told my friend to immediately cancel the one she booked and changed it with the one I saw online. I ended up buying a lot of souvenirs for the savings we had.

Wish to Visit These Places in Canada

There are a lot of  countries that I wish to visit in this beautiful world. I know that one life is not enough to see everything but I am happy that I have already  seen  some of it.  Isn't it an  awesome experience  visiting almost 30 countries worldwide and still counting. I believed I am a lucky  individual to visit those countries.

One of my travel wishlist was finally fulfilled when I visited Canada lately.  It was one of the  Holidays to Canada that I was dreaming of. It was quite a short two-day trip but I was glad  to be  in Vancouver for the first time. My happiness was overwhelming when I stepped on  Canada's land.

The Best of Thailand's Capital

Do you want to spend a holiday in one of the world's most tourist hotspots? Do you want to experience an ultimate urban vibe? The answer to these questions is to take a vacation in Thailand's capital. Bangkok is the primary city and largest urban area of Thailand. Known in Thai as as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon which means "city of angels", it was a trading post during the Ayutthaya Kingdom due to its location at at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River.

Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok's main airport is also the busiest airport in Southeast Asia. Bangkok flights both international and domestic land in this airport which is located 30 kilometers (19 mi) to the east of Bangkok. This airport offer all facilities from restaurants to ATMS, money changer, transit hotel, tax-free shops and other facilities you would expect from a major international airport.

A week or two is just not enough to experience everything in Bangkok. Here are some of the best things to experience when visiting this city.

Take a Canal Tour- This is one of the best experience to do when visiting Bangkok. There are travel agencies who are offering canal tours in this city. Depending on the type of cruise you book, you will take a motorized boat along the Chao Phraya River. They will stop at Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn for sightseeing which is usually included in the cruise. Wat Arun is one of the most famous landmark in this city. There you will find the 260 feet high pagoda named or Phra Prang, which is the most attractive structure in the temple. If you have more time, take a walk to the upper levels. From there you will take in a panoramic view of the surrounding city.

Take A Sightseeing Tour at the Royal Grand Palace Bangkok- This is one thing you must not miss when taking a vacation in Bangkok. When you can, put this in your number one list to do when visiting this city. The tour will take you to the Royal Grand Palace including the Temple of The Emerald Buddha, known in Thai as Wat Phra Keow. You can find there the most fabulous Buddha image carved from one-piece jade, which is the holiest and most revered of religious objects in Thailand today. Other sights nearby that are worth to visit are The Royal Funeral Hall and The Royal Coronation Hall.

Floating Market in Bangkok, Thailand

Visit To The Floating Market- Another interesting thing to do when in Bangkok. If Venice, Italy is a floating city, you can experience a floating market in Thailand's capital. The name of this place is Damnoensaduak. It is believed to be one of a well-known and an attractive travelling sites. The Floating market is always crowded with hundreds of vendors and purchasers floating in their small rowing boats selling and buying or exchanging their goods. Food, fruits and vegetables are their purchase which mostly brought from their own orchards. If you have more time, you can continue your journey to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market 2.

Nature Lovers- Garden and Plant Shows To Visit in Europe

Some of these garden and plants shows were already over. Some are still going on and some are about to come. To all nature lovers out there who are traveling in Europe in 2011, you still have the chance to visit some of these garden and plant shows all year long throughout Europe. Thanks to the garden experts for compiling the list below.

Malvern Autumn Garden and Country Show, Malvern, Worcestershire, England

This show in September marks the end of the gardening year and the approach of autumn. Representatives from more than 100 nurseries will have displays here. You can also find garden decors and accessories during the show.

International Violet Meeting, Toulouse, France

Toulouse is known as the world capital of violets. The “pink city” hosted the International Violet Meeting last February 5 and February 6. Botanists, scientists and violet growers from all over the world came to the city to share their knowledge. People who have no professional connection to the world of violets got a lot from this show. There were exhibitions and other attractions centered around flowers. Admission to the show was free.

Holland Flowers Festival, Zwaagdijk-Oost, The Netherlands

Flower lovers had seen many more types of flowers during their travel to the Netherlands for the Holland Flower Festival last February 23 to February 27. The show’s venue was filled with hundreds of kinds of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, narcissus, irises and crocuses. Early bird tickets and group discounts were available for this show

Floralies Internationales, Geneva, Switzerland

There are still garden and plant shows to visit in Europe as winter approaches. The Floralies Internationales from November 14 to November 23 is held inside the Palexpo Exhibition Centre. The temperatures outside will be between 30 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit but the floral arrangements by exhibitors from all over the world will make it seem like spring inside the Exhibition Centre.

Wicklow Gardens Festival, County Wicklow, Ireland

Travelers who want to see gardens in Ireland have a great opportunity to do so during the Wicklow Gardens Festival from April to September. The gardens that can be visited during the festival are not usually open to the public. Ireland’s Heritage Properties are also on display during the festival. Houses and gardens all over County Wicklow can be visited during the festival. Visitors can see Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford and then travel north to see the Powerscourt House and Gardens in Enniskerry. Travelers who go west from Enniskerry will come to Russborough House and its gardens.

Nature lovers will likely find a plant or garden show to visit in most European countries no matter what time of year they travel to Europe.

Important Reminders Before Taking Your Holiday

I know there are a lot out there who are experts about this topic. I might not be, but I have enough experience to share with you. Let me begin with the basics. There are a lot of things we need to consider when planning or before going for a trip or vacation. As a frequent traveler, I have a lot of experiences to impart to those who want to travel. Things you should do and prepare before going for your holiday. Here are some travel guides and tips I wish to share to all those who are still beginners in the travel world.

What to Take

With the exploding prices of gasoline these days, most airlines are reducing their allowed baggage both check-in and hand carry. I remember during my first vacation to the Philippines where I am allowed up to 35 kilos for check-in and 12 kilos for hand carry. That was 2004. During my last vacation last 2009-2010, my check-in luggage was only 30 kilos and hand carry was 7 kilos. Imagine the difference.

This is only a reminder that we need to only take the most important things we need. I know you don't want to be left in your flight, only because of overweight in your luggage.

There is a saying that says, "Half the clothes and twice the money". This simply means that bring as little as possible. You don't know if you are still shopping for clothes and sometimes overweight luggage can give you stress. Bring only the things that you importantly need. Bring with you one medium-size suitcase, with wheels is lighter. I usually have an extra shoulder bag where I put important travel documents. I also bring a smaller bag where I put some personal items. If you follow this rule, you will surely have a comfortable trip.

I always see to it that I always bring with me an extra sweater. This is especially true if you are traveling in Europe. Sometimes there are countries that have changing weather condition. Brief cold spells in Europe are not uncommon. I also bring with me some pens and notebooks because I usually write a travel journal. Slip-in a small pocket flashlight in your shoulder bag together with collapsible umbrella. Also take with you adapter plugs and electrical converter for your electrical appliances. European voltage is 220.

I truly recommend luggage with wheels. I only have a two-wheel luggage at the moment. I want to buy a four-wheel luggage soon.

Cash, Currencies and Cards

For me these are the most important things you need to consider when travelling, cash currencies and cards. Most members of the European Union countries are now using Euro currency. Some countries in Europe like England, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Norway are using their own monetary unit. It is not a problem because you can find a lot of money or currency exchange shops at the airport, train stations and banks.

There are sites online like caxtonfx.com where you can convert one currency to another currency. You can also purchase an electronic foreign exchange rate converter. Some cellphone apps or cellphone companies are having this feature now.

Cards like Visa, Maestro, Cirrus and most debit cards are widely accepted nowadays. It is advisable not to carry more cash than you can afford to lose. There are ATMs everywhere. You can also carry a traveler check which is safer. I hope you are also aware that credit cards are safer to use that debit cards.

Before You Go

You should take steps to ensure that no break-in will happen when you are away. This is especially true if there have been any break-ins in your area. You can ask your neighbours to keep a watchful eye for suspicious people and their activities. Request you neighbour to call the police if ever there are suspicious people around.

Some people who are members of social networks like facebook, myspace, tagged, etcetera are announcing their vacation on their walls and shout-outs. Beware of these, the burglars might have an idea that you are not at home. Lastly, don't announce your forthcoming holiday plans in the newspaper or tabloids. It might cause you or your properties some harm.

I guess these reminders and tips will help you in your journey. Have a safe and enjoyable trip to all travelers out there.

Wild Flowers of the Himalayas

Spanning an area of 612,021 square km, the Himalaya Mountain Range is home to an incredibly diverse ecology with flora and fauna that has survived in some of the harshest conditions. Walking the Himalayas, you may come across five of these stunning wild flowers which you’ll find growing along the mountain tracks and valleys.

A trip to the Himalayas seems to be like taking a beautiful garden route especially when seeing the nature around it.

CYANANTHUS INCANUS

This lovely flower is a member of the Bell flower family that grows in the Himalayas. This short plant stands no more than 10cm tall and has small leaves. Greek for “blue flowers ”, these flowers reveal the bright blue-violet petals that they were named for in August and September. The flowers are 2.5cm in diameter and are funnel or bell-shaped.

GENTIANA SINO-ORNATA

The Showy Chinese Gentian is found throughout the Himalayas. Low growing, the Sino-ornata forms a trailing mat of grass-like foliage over rocky soil with large upright trumpet shaped blossoms. Known for producing incredible shades of blue flowers in late summer and early fall, the Sino-ornata has also been used medicinally in teas and remedies.

PALASH TREE

The Palash, or Butea monosperma, is a flowering tree found in the lower altitudes of the Uttarakhand. It is said that the Palash tree is a form of Agnidev, the God of Fire. As punishment for disturbing Lord Shiva and herself, the goddess Parvati changed him into a tree. The Palash blossoms are about 2.5cm long, and are a vibrant red-orange. The blossoms are used to prepare a traditional colour powder for Holi, a spring festival.

BURAN

Burans, or rhododendron, also blooms in early spring along the valleys of the Uttarakhand. These hardy blossoms spread their colour at an altitude above 2,450m making a striking sight against the snow and blue sky panorama. Medicinally, the Buran is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.

MARSH MARIGOLDS

Marsh Marigolds, or Caltha palustris, cover the Valley of Flowers. A “U” shaped valley formed by glaciers, the floor of the valley has become covered in flowers and plants that have learned to survive in the harsh conditions. The Marsh Marigold, a cousin to the buttercup, can grow up to 80cm with small yellow flowers 2-5cm in diameter. All parts of the plant are poisonous and excessive handling can cause contact dermatitis or skin rashes.

Things to Help You Record Your Trip

I don't know how many of you out there who are actually recording your trip or vacation. I always do. That is the reason why I have some things with me every time I travel. I also write it in my travel blogs and also sharing images from my trips. It can be hard to remember every detail after the trip but when we recorded what had happened, it is easy for us to remember almost everything. There are several items you can bring with you on a vacation to ensure that you remember as much of it as possible, even after it is over. Thanks to our friends who are travel experts who helped us compiled this list.

1) Digital Camera

Most people have digital cameras in today's day and age, but many people don't take as many pictures on vacation as they should. Though you may not be able to quite capture that beautiful sunset as well as you saw it in real life, just having the picture of it will bring back your own memory of it. Photographs are also one of the best ways to let other people that weren't there see what you experienced.

sunset in Manila Bay, Philippines. taken during my vacation last 2010.

2) Journal and Notebook

Though you might be able to remember places you visited and what you did, one of the most important things that people tend to forget is how they felt as they visited a place or viewed a famous piece of history. Having a journal or notebook will give you a place to not only to write down what it is that you did, but how you felt about it. Looking back on it years later, you'll be able to relive the same feelings by reflecting on your memories and what you wrote.

3) Pens and Pencils

It might seem obvious, but if you don't have a pen or a pencil you won't be able to record the important things during your trip. If you have some downtime during your trip, such as a bus ride or a wait for an attraction, which can be the perfect time to write things down while they are still fresh in your mind. If you buy a pen, make sure it’s a good one that lasts–one you can keep forever, like a german-made lamy pen. However, if you don't carry a good pen or pencil with you then you may miss the opportunity to record it, and memories might fade before you can write them down.

4) Folder

Having some sort of small folder or envelope to collect important papers and scraps of your trip is a great way to record your trip. You can save pamphlets, ticket stubs, and any other small items that you acquired during your trip. These can later be used just to reflect on the good time you had, or to use in a scrapbook or journal.

Whatever trips, holiday or adventure tours and activities you may plan to do, always remember to record it for future use.

Melbourne Sightseeing

For me, Melbourne is one of the beautiful cities in Australia. It is actually the capital in the state of Victoria. It is also the most populous city in this state and the second most populous in the whole of Australia. For sure, when we will be visiting this city, we need a place to stay. Unless you have some friends and relatives who will heartily welcome you in their homes. But don't have to worry there are, cheap melbourne hotels who will always welcome us during our stay. I am included here because I still did not visit this city.

For now, all I can do is read and share about its famous sights. Here the sights I wish to visit in Melbourne.

Federation Square

This is the first in my wishlist to visit in Melbourne. It is a major square in this city. You cal also find here the Federation Square Building with its unique architecture. It is considered to be Victoria’s second most popular tourist attraction.

Luna Park Melbourne

I always love parks and garden and I am very sure that I will love this place. Luna Park Melbourne was opened on 13 December 1912. It is a historic amusement park located on the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay in St Kilda, Victoria.

Eureka Tower

It is the tallest residential building in the world. You can have a wonderful panoramic view of Melbourne at Eureka Skydeck. If you have fear on heights, better not attempt to go up.

The Royal Exhibition Building

Another worthy to visit is the Royal Exhibition Building located in the Carlton Gardens. The buildings and the gardens belongs to the list of UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004.

Of course, there are still a lot of sights to see. This is only my partial list. I believed I can visit this city one day.
