TF#42- Geranium and Orchids

I am sharing again some flowers for #42 Edition of Today's Flowers. Don't forget to visit other participants who also share their flowers. Feel free to also visit the Guest Blogger for this week, Eurongel Graffiti's blog for more lovely flowers. My two other blogs, My Daily Nourishment and Simply The Best are also joining for the first time. Happy weekend to all!

I guess this is one of kind of a Phalaenopsis Orchid. It looks like a tiger orchid..here is little info about this beautiful flower.

Phalaenopsis is a genus of approximately 60 species of orchids (family Orchidaceae). The abbreviation in the horticultural trade is Phal. Phalaenopsis is one of the most popular orchids in the trade, through the development of many artificial hybrids.

The generic name means "Phalaen[a]-like" and is probably a reference to the genus Phalaena, the name given by Carolus Linnaeus to a group of large moths; the flowers of some species supposedly resemble moths in flight. For this reason, the species are sometimes called Moth orchids.

They are native throughout southeast Asia from the Himalayan mountains to the islands of Polillo and Palawan of the Philippines and northern Australia. Orchid Island off Taiwan is named after this orchid. Little recent information about their habitat and their ecology in nature is available since little field research has been done in the last decades.

Geranium is a genus of 422 species of flowering annual, biennial, and perennial plants that are commonly known as the cranesbills. It is found throughout the temperate regions of the world and the mountains of the tropics, but mostly in the eastern part of the Mediterranean region. These attractive flowers will grow in any soil as long as it is not waterlogged. Propagation is by semi-ripe cuttings in summer, by seed, or by division in autumn or spring.
